Shell has made public that its Mero 3 project off the coast of Brazil has reached first oil. The Marechal Duque de Caxias floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit was designed with an operational capacity of 180 barrels of oil per day (bopd).
The vessel has been placed approximately 200km from the coast of Rio de Janeiro. It follows on the first oil announcements of the Sepetiba FPSO (Mero 2) in December 2023 and the Guanabara FPSO (Mero 1) in May 2022.
Combined, the three development phases have a total production capacity of 590,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boed).
