TotalEnergies and QatarEnergy have signed an agreement for the creation of a joint venture for a solar power project in Iraq. The 50-50 joint venture will install a photovoltaic (PV) farm with a 1.25GWp generation capacity in the Basra region.
The solar farm is part of the investments planned in the US$27bn Gas Growth Integrated Project (GGIP), which also involves Basra Oil Co. (BOC).
The power plant will feature two million bifacial solar panels which will come online in different development phases between 2025 and 2027. Power output would be equivalent to the needs of approximately 350,000 homes in Basra.
