Developed in partnership with Siemens Energy, Aramco has launched the first direct air capture (DAC) of carbon dioxide in Saudi Arabia. Aramco says that the project will serve as a testing platform for next-generation CO2 capture materials in Saudi Arabia’s climate.
It will also seek to achieve cost reductions that could help accelerate the deployment of DAC facilities in the Middle East. The two companies plan to continue working together to scale up the technology.
Carbon capture is an integral piece of Aramco's net zero strategy. The company intends to reach neutrality for Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions across all of its wholly owned assets by 2050.
