The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) has held a ceremony for the announcement of five mini-liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities in the country. To be built in the state of Kogi, these projects are intended to provide a cleaner and cheaper source of energy to the region, which suffers from a lack of access to gas pipeline infrastructure.
NNPC is directly involved in three of the five initiatives: Prime LNG (with a 90% stake), NGML/Gasnexus LNG (50%) and BUA LNG (10%). The remaining two facilities are named LNG Arete and Highland LNG.
This is part of NNPC's efforts to make gas an essential part of Nigeria's economic development. The company has recently signed several deals for the sector's growth, in accordance to the country's 2020-30 Decade of Gas plan.
