A new offshore wind project has had its construction and operations plan (COP) approved by the United States Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM). The 2GW wind farm would be located off the coast of Maryland.
The project is developed by US Wind, a consortium led by Italian company Renexia SpA. According to BOEM, once operational, it's expected that the power plant will be able to power more than 700,000 households.
Construction will involve the installation of 114 wind turbines, a maximum of four offshore substations, four offshore export cables and one meteorological tower.
