Pacific Energy has announced the completion of an expansion project for its power system in the Tropicana gold mine, Western Australia. The initiative successfully added 61MW of renewable energy to the existing 54MW gas-fired power plant.
With a total capacity of 115MW, this is Australia's largest off-grid hybrid system to power a mine. The expansion project covered the installation of a 24MW wind farm, a 6MW solar park and a 13MW battery energy storage system (BESS).
These renewables additions are calculated to avoid 65,000 tonnes of carbon emissions per year from Tropicana.
