Dominion Energy has submitted a request for approval with Virginia's State Corporation Commission (SCC) to develop a new 1GW gas-fired power plant adjacent to the existing Chesterfield power plant in Chester, United States.
Named Chesterfield Energy Reliability Center (CERC), it will feature four 250MW gas turbines. There won't be the need to build new associated pipelines or transmission system.
The decision to build the facility near the Chesterfield asset was made in August last year. Initially, it would be developed at the James River Industrial Center, which is now likely to become home for the world's first fusion nuclear power plant.
If the request is approved, construction work is expected to initiate in 2026, with start-up expected to take place in 2029.
