QatarEnergy has disclosed the beginning of construction for a future blue ammonia facility in Mesaieed Industrial City. According to the company, the plant will be the world's largest, with a production capacity of 1.2 million tonnes per annum (mtpa).
The execution of the project will require a total calculated investment of over US$1.2bn. It will also include the installation of a carbon dioxide injection and storage element with a 1.4mtpa capacity.
Operations are slated for the second quarter of 2026. The production of blue ammonia will be powered by more than 35MW of electricity coming from a nearby solar park.
