Equinor and partner Vår Energi have announced that Johan Castberg's floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit has successfully anchored at the field. Johan Castberg is located in the Barents Sea, approximately 200km off the coast of Norway.
Current works are now related to preparations for start-up and the hooking up process of the vessel to the subsea facilities. Production should start by the end of the year.
The field is calculated to hold recoverable volumes of up to 650 million barrels of oil. It is expected to have a production lifespan of 30 years, with peak production likely to reach 220,000 barrels per day.
