India has given approval to a US$1.48bn investment programme for the development of hydropower projects in the country. The scheme, which will be valid from the 2024-25 financial year to 2031-32, is an initiative from the Ministry of Power.
The approved scheme is an updated version of an existing programme for the financial support of hydroelectric infrastructure. Now, not only construction projects of roads and bridges will be covered. Transmission lines and revamp projects of existing roads and bridges will also be supported.
It is expected that over 31GW of projects will be granted assistance.
