Sumitomo Electric Industries has disclosed the completion of works at the Greenlink transmission project. The company was responsible for the installation of high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) and fiber optic cables.
Developed by Element Power, Greenlink connects the grids in County Wexford, Ireland and Pembrokeshire, Wales. The transmission line runs for 24km in Ireland, 6km in Wales and 160km underwater.
Testing, commissioning and handover to engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) consortium partner Siemens Energy have already been carried out. Trial operations are expected in the coming months.
