Australia has granted environmental approval to SunCable's Australia-Asia Power Link (AAPowerLink) project. The permit was issued by the Commonwealth Minister for the Environment and Water under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act (EPBC).
AAPowerLink will include an energy infrastructure consisting of a 17-20GWp solar farm, a 36-42GWh battery system and a 5,000km-long high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission line, of which 4,300km will be underwater.
The project will be developed in two phases. SunCable intends to provide up to 6GW of green power to customers in Darwin and Singapore. Aiming to reach start-up in the early 2030s, a final investment decision (FID) is expected by 2027.
