ACWA Power's Ar Rass solar power project in Saudi Arabia has officially started operations. The solar farm, which was built in the Qassim province, has an estimated generation capacity of 700MW.
The project was awarded to an ACWA Power-led consortium by the Ministry of Energy in the third National Renewable Energy Programme (NREP). The consortium also includes China's SPIC Huanghe Hydropower Development and Saudi Arabia's Water and Electricity Holding Company (Badeel).
ACWA Power will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of Ar Rass, which is calculated to produce enough power to support 132,000 homes. This would be enough to avoid the emission of 1.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.
