Lightsource bp has been granted a financing worth of NZ$267m for a solar power project in New Zealand. To be located in Christchurch, the 168MWdc project is named Kōwhai and is planned to be one of the country's largest solar farms.
Kōwhai is designed to feature approximately 300,000 solar panels. It is developed under a partnership with Contact. This is part of a wider initiative by the Christchurch Airport for a renewable energy precint, Kōwhai Park.
The financing package has been granted by Westpac, Mizuho, China Construction Bank and Intesa Sanpaolo-IMICIB. Construction is scheduled for late this year, with start-up set for 2026.
