Woodside Energy has chosen SBM Offshore for the construction and leasing of a floating, storage and offloading (FSO) unit. The vessel will be deployed at the Trion project offshore Mexico.
Trion is located in the Perdido Belt in the Gulf of Mexico. Its development cost is calculated at US$7.2bn, and Woodside estimated the field to hold approximately 479 million barrels of oil equivalent (mmboe).
According to the agreement, SBM Offshore will lease the FSO for a 20-year period. The unit is planned to have a storage capacity of approximately 950,000 barrels of crude oil.
It follows a previous transportation and installation agreement also awarded to SBM offshore in 2023, which included both the FSO and the floating production unit (FPU).
