Cheniere Energy has firmed a long-term liquefied natural gas (LNG) sale and purchase agreement (SPA) with Galp Energia's subsidiary Galp Trading. The agreement establishes that Galp will receive 0.5 million metric tonnes per annum (mtpa) of LNG for a period of 20 years.
This period should begin in early 2030, with deliveries subject to a positive final investment decision (FID) on the second train of the expansion project currently under development for Sabine Pass. The initiative will see the export terminal in Louisiana increase its capacity by 14mtpa.
Permits for the facility's site, construction and operation were requested to government authorities in February.
