Equinor, TotalEnergies and Shell’s joint venture Northern Lights has made public the successful installation of the first temporary CO2 storage tank at its Northern Lights project’s site Øygarden, Norway.
Once construction is over, 12 tanks will have been installed, enabling the storage of approximately 1.5 million tonnes of CO2 annually.
A second development phase for Northern Lights is also under plans, looking to expand the facility’s capacity over 5 million tonnes per annumm.
Start-up is expected to take place in 2024.
