Amarinth, a world-leading, net-zero designer and manufacturer of low lifecycle cost centrifugal pumps and associated equipment, primarily for the offshore and onshore oil & gas industries; nuclear and renewable energy generation; defence; desalination; process and industrial markets, has successfully completed a major project for ADNOC Offshore. This involved the refurbishment and modification of two Amarinth API 610 duplex hydrocarbon condensate pumps at the Zirku Island site, enhancing the plant’s capacity while ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
With over 450 Amarinth pumps already installed across ADNOC facilities, the collaboration further strengthens the long-standing relationship between the two companies. The two pumps, originally supplied a decade ago, were key components in the hydrocarbon condensate process on Zirku Island, a crucial oil and gas processing hub for ADNOC located in the Arabian Gulf. As ADNOC sought to increase the plant's capacity, they turned to Amarinth to provide a cost-effective solution that leveraged the existing pumps.
Refurbished and upgraded pump for ADNOC undergoing testing
Amarinth engineers were dispatched to Zirku Island to conduct an in-depth investigation and assessment of the existing pumps. A comprehensive gap analysis was undertaken to determine how the horizontal pumps, originally designed and installed ten years ago, could be refurbished to comply with current ADNOC specifications and meet the increased capacity requirements. The goal was to deliver a solution with minimal impact on the plant’s operations.
The resulting approach included designing new pump casings, supplying a larger and more efficient motor, and upgrading to Variable Speed Drives (VSD). These enhancements allowed the pumps to achieve the higher capacity needed while maintaining the existing baseplate and skid arrangement, as the new motor fit seamlessly within the same footprint as the original. The Plan 53B seal support systems and mechanical seals were reused and recalibrated, avoiding the need for any modifications to the pipework or fittings, thus minimising downtime and costs for ADNOC.
Given ADNOC's requirement to keep the plant operational throughout the refurbishment process, Amarinth implemented a phased approach, refurbishing one pump at a time. This strategy enabled the first refurbished pump to be commissioned and returned to duty before taking the second pump offline, ensuring continuous operation of the plant.
