The United States Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has given approval to the delay of the Golden Pass LNG project. Developers ExxonMobil and QatarEnergy now have until 2029 to complete the liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility in Texas.
This is the Golden Pass LNG's second deadline extension. The first one, due to a slow permitting process, was granted in 2019 and determined that the terminal should reach operations in 2026.
Through the project, ExxonMobil and QatarEnergy intend to expand an existing LNG terminal in Jefferson County. Approximately 18 million tonnes per annum (MMtpa) of export capacity would be added.
