Through a joint venture specifically designed for the project's development, JERA, Eneos Power and Kyushu Electric Power have reach first power at the Goi thermal power plant in Goi-Kaigan, Japan.
The current project at Goi consists of the installation of three new liquefied natural gas (LNG)-fired combined-cycle units with a combined capacity of 2.34GW to replace six ageing gas-fired steam power units. The initiative is ongoing since 2019.
The first unit of the new set is already operational, with the second and third LNG units following in November 2024 and March 2025.
