New market opportunities

ExxonMobil Guyana has made 16 discoveries since 2015 and will begin producing up to 120,000 barrels of oil per day from the Liza Phase 1 development in early 2020.

A second development phase at the Liza field was sanctioned in May 2019 and a third phase, targeting resources at the Payara field, has already been announced.

Tullow Oil has just announced a major oil discovery in the Orinduik block in Guyana, raising expectations it will move to develop a field in the oil-rich South American country.

The new tertiary opens the pathway for the emergence of a possible 10 billion barrel plus province, second only in its scale as a new emerging province this century to the Pre-Salt of Brazil. As the country is small, there is a strong need for expertise and experience from UK companies.

Established market with changing demands

Trinidad and Tobago has been involved in the petroleum sector for over one hundred years undertaking considerable oil and gas exploration activity on land and in shallow water with cumulative production totalling over three (3) billion barrels of oil.

The country now looks to deep water opportunities in the basin, providing a new demand for the UK’s supply chain technologies and expertise.

BP, Shell, BHP and EOG have committed to investing in excess of US$10Bn in the market over the next five years. Shell, the major gas producer has approached the Government for extensions to their contracts and licenses cementing their long-term future in T&T.

The other major gas producers EOG and BHP have committed to exploration and development activities which will maintain production in the medium to long-term.
