It's no secret that wind energy has become a catalyst for the energy transition landscape Europe is thriving for. Wind is one of the leading energy sources for the region, with over 448GW under development on our project tracking database EICDataStream - of which around 36GW is expected to be built in Germany.
The latest onshore wind auctions have also taken an upward turn, with more capacity being awarded than previous years. Major players such as Vattenfall, RWE Renewables and ABO Wind are playing a key role in capacity additions, whilst also pushing the movement for repowering projects. Meanwhile, offshore wind in Europe dominates many energy conversations, especially due to the increased need for energy security within the region's borders.
Germany has had a fruitful year so far with its two recent auctions, where 7GW of non-predeveloped areas were awarded to BP and TotalEnergies, whilst 1.8GW of pre-developed centralised capacity was awarded to RWE, Vattenfall and Waterkant Energy. With all this in mind, it is evident that there is enough opportunities in Germany's wind sector, for supply chain companies to explore.
