About this event
PLEASE NOTE - This event will now be a combined event with the Cables & Accessories MasterclassThe Scottish Supply Chain has a major opportunity to further exploit the offshore wind market. Therefore, ETZ are partnering up with Scottish Enterprise with delivery partner EIC, to provide a deep dive 5 mini masterclass series on the recently developed high value manufacturing offshore wind factsheets. These cover different aspects of some fixed but mostly floating offshore wind projects. The factsheets are there to help companies assess where their own skills and experience can be applied to these offshore wind components with detailed descriptions of the individual areas of opportunity. The factsheets include the weights, lengths and quantities of many of the most common sub components in both fixed and floating offshore wind. These are intended to provide information for companies wishing to enter the offshore wind supply chain.Cable Protection Systems (CPS) help protect cables against impact, abrasion, fatigue, and damaging movement such as over-bending at vulnerable locations. This is particularly important for floating wind turbines which use dynamic cables to enable movement. CPS are needed to reduce costs involved with maintaining, repairing or replacing cables.
Cables & Accessories - There are two types of cable used in offshore wind, array cables and export cables. Array cables transmit power from wind turbines in a string to an offshore substation. Array cables are typically rated at 66 kV, this is expected to increase to 132 kV in the future. Higher capacity export cables, typically rated at 220 kV, deliver power from the offshore substation to the onshore substation for further distribution into the grid. Future wind farms may use export cables with higher ratings, up to 275 kV. Sometimes for smaller wind farms an offshore substation is not required, and the array cables connect to the onshore substation. Cable accessories terminate the cable and provide mechanical support during installation and over the cable’s lifetime.
Join us on Wednesday 24 April at the Marcliffe Hotel in Aberdeen for the opportunity to engage with developers along with available supply chain support and how to access this from partner organisations. Full agenda details to follow.
