About this event

Oceans are a largely untapped source of energy, with the potential to become an infinite power supply. According to Ocean Energy Systems (OES), global wave and tidal stream energy production has increased tenfold over the past decade. Ocean Energy Europe, in their 2030 Ocean Energy Vision report, projects that 2.9 GW of clean energy can be deployed globally by 2030, with 92% of this in European waters.

The UK already leads the way with 10 MW of tidal stream generation installed and more wave and tidal tests underway than anywhere else in the world. According to the UK government's projections, the combination of wave and tidal energy has the potential to provide up to 20% of the country's current electricity demand, with an installed capacity of 30 to 50 GW. With the success for tidal projects in the last two Contract for Difference rounds, marine energy is expected to play a part in the country’s renewable targets. By 2050, the global ocean energy industry is expected to be valued at £76 billion.

While marine energy technology is still in its early stages and not as advanced as other renewable energy sources, it holds tremendous potential. We invite you to join us in Liverpool to learn about the various projects in UK waters, explore emerging opportunities, and discuss the challenges of accelerating this sector.
