About this event

Earlier this year, DNV released 2024 UK ETO report, which highlights the urgent requirement for the UK Government to prioritise long-term policy clarity and consistency to drive the transition away from fossil fuels. Despite the UK’s early ambition and action to champion the energy transition, the report highlights a slowdown in progress and warns that without immediate action, the UK risks missing its 2030 climate targets and legally binding mid-century decarbonisation goals.

Last year we saw the devastating effects of severe weather events, whilst also witnessing spikes in global temperatures and carbon emissions. Despite these pressing environmental concerns, public attention seemed to remain fixated on geopolitical tensions, conflicts and immediate economic issues.

DNV’s UK ETO underscores that the nation is at risk of falling short of its 'net zero by 2050' objective unless there is a substantial increase in governmental support for a low-carbon future. Given that oil and gas presently constitute around 80% of the energy mix, a significant escalation in renewable power generation and grid capacity is crucial. Inspired by this, we are delighted to be bringing this business forum to address key targets, government policy, the skills gap, renewable energy, next steps and more.

Join us … in either Aberdeen or Manchester this September as we explore the necessary next steps for the UK as we transition away from fossil fuels towards an electrified future and striving for a well-balanced power system.
