About this event

The EIC is happy to announce the Webinar: Overview of CCS projects in Brazil

Join us on February 13th, 2025, for an in-depth session on CCS projects led by Renovar Sustentabilidade.

In a report released by the International Energy Agency (IEA) in October 2024, the expected total CO2 removed globally by carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects will surpass 1,700 million tonnes by 2030, with two-thirds of this amount anticipated in emerging markets and developing economies.
As of January 2025, around 45 CCS/CCUS projects are operating worldwide. While the increase of operational capacity has been steady in recent years, the number of announced projects indicate potential growth in the near future.

With an annual production of 56 million m³ of ethanol in the USA (2021) and 35 million m³ per year in Brazil (2021), the world's two primary ethanol producers possess significant potential for the advancement of the BECCS concept by integrating the ethanol industry with suitable geological conditions. Leveraging this potential, FS Bioenergia is currently developing Brazil's first BECCS project in Mato Grosso.

Considering the robust potential that Brazil has for the CCS market, a regulatory framework for the sector has been under development. In October 2024, Brazil enacted the Fuel of the Future law, marking the country’s initial step towards establishing a national programme for CCS  deployment.

Please note that this webinar will be held in English.
