About this event
The EIC is happy to announce the Webinar: Nuclear Energy Opportunities - Market Insights and Trends with Eletronuclea
Join us on February 4th, 2025, for an in-depth session on nuclear projects led by Eletronuclear. This is your opportunity to understand the next steps in nuclear projects in Brazil.
Created in 1997, Eletronuclear's mission is to operate and build the country's thermonuclear power plants. A subsidiary of Empresa Brasileira de Participações em Energia Nuclear e Binacional S.A. (ENBPar), Eletronuclear is a mixed-capital company responsible for generating approximately 3% of the electricity consumed in Brazil. Currently in operation are the Angra 1 plants, with a capacity to generate 640 megawatts of electricity, and Angra 2, with 1,350 megawatts of electricity. Angra 3, which will be practically a replica of Angra 2 (incorporating the technological advances that have taken place since the plant was built), is expected to generate 1,405 megawatts of electricity.
The new unit will be able to generate more than 12 million megawatt-hours a year, enough to serve 4.5 million people. In this way, nuclear energy will generate the equivalent of 60% of the consumption of the state of Rio de Janeiro and 3% of Brazil's consumption. So far R$7.8 billion have been invested in the project, and to complete the plant will require around R$20 billion. 65% of the work has already been done and it is estimated that Angra 3 will start operating at the end of 2028.
Please note that this webinar will be held in English.
